seed starting
I’ll go ahead and admit that I started some things too early. Particularly baby’s breath. I mistakenly thought I purchased perennial baby’s breath but they’re annuals. Perennials generally take longer to establish, we’d be lucky to get cuts from any planted this year, but starting them early gives us a better chance. I had planned to up-pot them 2 to 3 times if needed to make sure we put in strong healthy plants. All that became moot however so now we have annual baby’s breath seedlings that are growing rather quickly. Ultimately we should be able to still care for them the same and get them into the ground after the frost, it’s just a little more work than was necessary.

the beginning
My name is Rachel. I’m the co-founder of Wishflower Farms. Along with my husband and best friend, Jason we decided to embark on a journey completely new to us (or at least me). Jason grew up surrounded by farming, he and his family for generations planted and harvested various types of livestock feed. After being suffocated by middle-class suburbia we realized what we wanted was land, and to do something special with it. A yard that leeched water and resources to simply be green grass wasn’t enough for us. We wanted to give back, to grow something that was useful, edible— beautiful. So we decided to upgrade from the small 4x2 garden bed in our previous home and buy a farmhouse on 1.6 acres.
